Bumble Barn B&B Steeped in Local History

About us

Bumble Barn B&B is owned and managed by Karen and Paul Grothier.  Karen and Paul each have over 30 years hospitality experience. Paul is a professional chef with over 30 years experience.  Karen has had many roles in hospitality from managing a busy bar to cake baker extraordinaire for the afternoon teas!

Originally from Essex Paul has lived in the area for many years having moved up after meeting and marrying Karen whose roots lie firmly in this area.  They are joined by their son Jack and a brood of Spaniels.

Karen and Paul also own and run one of the local pubs, the Cross Keys in Dilham and so are at the very heart of local village life!

They’re very proud of what they have achieved here and want to share it with as many people as possible.

Karen and Paul are joined at Bumble Barn by their son Jack and a gang of friendly spaniels.

About The Barn – some local history

Victorian

The Barn was originally part of a Victorian working farm, used for storing various machinery and livestock at different times.  Much of the surrounding area is still farmland – some of the countries best produce is grown or bred in Norfolk.

Post Victorian

The land and various farm buildings have been in Karen’s family for many years – her father Mike used it as a yard for his building company though the main barn was practically derelict.  The project to convert it to a family home commenced about 10 years ago.  It’s been a real labour of love with the majority of the conversion actually largely completed by Mike himself with lots of help from Paul and Karen together with lots of  family and friends.

in 2019 they had the terrific idea of sharing the building with guests and re-planned to include the  B&B rooms.  It’s been hard work, a long hard slog, but we hope you’ll agree that the effort has been well worth it!
